DescriptionAtech is a regional leader in the
application of information technology by means of implementation through
innovative solutions. Present in the Brazilian and US markets since
1997, Atech focuses on delivering high quality products and affordable
services to its loyal customer base in the government and commercial
sectors. Industries served include aerospace, aerogeophysics, air space
and environment, et cetera.
Atechs first endeavor was the
challenging SIPAM/SIVAM project (System for the Protection and
Surveillance of the Amazon), a world-first program. As lead systems
integrator, Atech developed and implemented complex system software,
established a technology transfer program, performed field installation
at remote sites in the Amazon region, and led system training at
government operational centers. Atech continues to support operational
and maintenance activities of SIPAM/SIVAM and will promote the technical
evolution of system intelligence after deployment.
This colossal
effort was a success through tight adaptation to process, technological
prowess, perseverance, and commitment to our clients and partners. Those
same traits and values are applied to all of our projects and
relationships regardless of size and it is upon those principals that we
are empowered to grow while continually serving our clients worldwide.
Atechs strategic partner is AmazonTech Services of Woburn,
Massachusetts. Together, they provide strategic solutions from
development to installation, through maintenance. AmazonTech is a unique
and progressive company with substantial knowledge in the implementation
of information technology and computer science to solve problems in
various domains. The three core business units are Aviation, Services
and Procurement, and AmazonTech specializes in bringing Brazilian life
sciences capability to US markets.
Visit Summary
The Atech visit began with the class getting a sense of the reality that
is office space in Rio de Janeiro. Upon arrival a representative brought
the class to the Atech offices in a high-rise to take a look at the
incredible view of Sugar Loaf Mountain and the water. A truly
spectacular sight! Then, the class quickly left these offices and even
the building, crossed the street, went into a commercial bookstore and
coffee shop, up the stairs to the elegant meeting rooms of Atech. Since
the high-rise building had no way to offer any meeting space to Atech,
they had to find an alternative arrangement.
After this tour,
Atech introduced the group to their cutting edge technology that is used
for the promotion of social advances. The private, employee-owned Atech
is actually part of a larger non-profit organization, Fundao Atech. It
was created in conjunction with the government for the sole purpose of
being the integrator of SIPAM/SIVAM, the worlds largest on-going
environmental protection program, and employs about 200 experienced
people in Brazil, 60% of whom have advanced university degrees.
In
line with the SIPAM/SIVAM project in the Amazon, Atechs core business
areas are air traffic management, surveillance and systems integration
for primarily government customers. Now more than 80% of air traffic in
Brazil is controlled by AmazonTech systems with Embraer being their
biggest competition. Software development, however, is a secondary
operation most of the time. The development takes place only to allow
the company to perform their core competencies to the best of their
ability. Atech does also hold a CCM Level 2 certification.
One
example is FPAssistant, a Flight Operations Management (FOM) Suite that
was designed to provide cost-effective integration. This graphical tool
offers fast and accurate generation of Flight Plan Routes and Mission
Planning by integrating all the information that air traffic flight
controllers need to analyze situations and perform their jobs better in
one tool. The FPAssistant integrated module gives a single point of
access to all critical flight operations and activities including
dispatch, scheduling aircraft maintenance, crew planning management,
messaging and weight and balance measurements.
Atech partners with
United States-based AmazonTech for many ventures outside of the SIPAM/SIVAM
project in the Amazon. The vertical industries of Biotechnology,
Aviation and Finance are all possibilities for Atech solutions.
AmazonTech focuses on air transport, logistics and information
technology. Together with AmazonTech, Atech is in the process of
developing and refining their products to be tailored for use by a U.S.
customer base.
With these partners being on different continents
and a lot of highly skilled staff, the biggest challenges for Atech and
AmazonTech are always human resources. Training their people and then
keeping them up-to-date on current technology and needs is an issue.
Then, retraining those people in whom they have invested is another.
Oftentimes, communication between the offices and among the various
cultures also presents a real trial.
