Networked Society
Germany
is a Technology Leader, Hence IT networks are crucial.
B2B revenues in Germany will rise 76.9 percent to
reach €388.6 billion in 2005. Although
approximately one third of Germany’s large companies already have implemented
B2B e-commerce solutions, a 2001 survey by the German research and consulting
firm Putz and Partner found that only one third had a strategy to drive their
e-business investments. However, in 2001, large German firms began investing in
e-business strategies, resulting in a growth in e-business strategy consulting.
In a Household:
Germans simply do not spend as much time looking up information on the
Internet as Americans. In addition, Europe’s multiple languages mean that
German firms who want to create economies of scale throughout the region in
e-commerce, both B2B and B2C, will continue to face major challenges.
The Unites States is by far
the lead based on E-commerce traffic and purchases. Europe comes in 2nd,
Canda 3d, and
Asia 4th.
A Government pushing for a Network Society:
“Living and Working in
a Networked World”: In July 2001 the Federal Government launched Germany’s
largest internet and software development research initiative to link German ICT
research institutions more closely and steer them towards common areas of
investigation which could boost Germany’s competitiveness. The government spent
approximately
€63
million Euros approx. 63.5 Million US dollars
on this project.
