Roger Rios

Roger Rios is an undergraduate student at DePaul University, under the School of Computing.   In June 2010, he will be receiving a Bachelor’s in Network Technologies, with a minor in Information Systems.  He also plans to pursue his Masters at DePaul in Business Information Technology or Information Systems.  This study abroad program is one of his remaining courses and a great way to end his undergraduate studies.

“Before studying abroad, I set goals for myself such as, networking, learning and understanding the people, culture and technology of Brazil.  I not only met these goals but exceeded them in many ways.   From sitting in professional meetings with key members of a corporation to speaking with a normal salesperson in a store, the information and communication that was exchanged between our study abroad group and the Brazilian people was amazing and valuable.  Every day spent abroad was an opportunity to build upon our already existing knowledge and every person we spoke to, provided us with great information on corporations, communities, and the government.   Studying abroad also allowed our group of students to network amongst each other and establish relationships as colleagues and friends. A personal interest of mine is being a barber, so I even visited a Brazilian barbershop and got a haircut. Thanks to my Spanish and conversational Portuguese, I was able to communicate with the owner of the barber shop, shared barbering ideas and exchanged knowledge about the US and Brazil.  I would definitely recommend this study abroad program to anyone and I am definitely considering studying abroad in a different country in 2010!”
