Singapore is
city-state country off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula,
however Just this island country has built a robust and competitive
network market. It was one of the first countries that digital
telephone network cover all the country. In 2009 the World Economic
Forum (WEF) awarded Singapore as ‘Asia’s most connected country,’
which just contributes the success to ICT development. Nowadays,
Singapore has become a major global telecommunications hub in the
region and is well positioned as a hub for international capacity.
People and
organization online: Stage 4
According to the
2010 Infocomm Usage by Households and individuals Survey, the total
population of Singapore is 4,987,600. The proportion of resident
households with internet and broadband access at home reached 82%.
Meanwhile, there are 12% of internet user, who use Smartphone access
internet and 3% of internet users use game machine to connect the
internet. In those internet users, most of them access internet via
broadband, such as ADSL, Cable modern.

Home and workplace
are two the most common places for connecting the internet. Until
Dec. 2010, there are 136,700 Corporate Broadband Subscription, and
98.62% of enterprise or institute has internet service. The reasons
for using internet are:

In the 21 century,
ICT provides a quality day life for Singaporean. In some ways, we
can say ICT already permeated everywhere of Singapore, which
includes Digital Media $ Entertainment, education, Financial
Services, health care, tourism & retail, government and community.
More and more Singaporean likes shopping-online, E-bank, distance
education and entertainment. In 2009, 97.2% of Singaporean download
the music from internet and 23% of 3G users used phone video chat
with others (By 2009, Singapore has 6.58 million mobile users and a
penetration rate of 136%, also Singapore has the lowest telecom
prices in the world). Besides this, the proportion of online
shoppers5 increased to 40% in 2009 and 17% of online shopper spent
$2000 or more online in a year.

Communication Technologies in the Workplace: Stage 4
In recently two
decades, Singapore has implemented an advanced and reliable
information technique infrastructure that has met the needs of
demands of their economy and society. Additionally, in the 2008,
Singapore launched a plan called “An Intelligent Nation, A Global
City, Powered by Infocomm”, which means a seamless, trusted and
intelligent infocomm infrastructure will be critical enabler for the
vertical sector economies of Singapore to gain a competitive edge in
the global market.
