One of my favorite books is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Follow the links to find the book on Amazon.com or to find out more about Marquez on Wikipedia (the free Web-based encyclopedia).
Here is a picture of Marquez along with a short introduction:
Garcia
Marquez is a Colombian novelist, journalist, publisher, and political
activist. Marquez often worked with concurrent historical epochs and gradually
influences from Faulkner gave way to his more objective manner of depiction,
partly derived from his experiences in journalism. Among other important
writers, who have influenced Garcia Marquez, are Kafka, Virginia Woolf, and Juan
Rulfo. In 1982 Garcia Marquez was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. His
best known book is CIEN ANOS DE SOLEDAD (1967, One Hundred Years of Solitude).
