INDUSTRY ANALYSIS: Group Project

Some Notes on Performing an Industry Analysis

This is a group assignment.  You will work on it in groups of 4 or 5, therefore your analysis should be comprehensive. 

See the Powerpoint file.  Essentially, an industry analysis requires you to answer 7 questions:

1. What are the industry's dominant economic traits?
2. What is the competition like and how strong are each of the competitive forces?
3. What are the drivers of change in the industry and what impact will they have?
4. Which companies are in the strongest/weakest competitive positions?
5. Who is likely to make what strategic moves next?
6. What key factors will determine competitive success in the industry environment?
7. Is this an attractive industry and what are the prospects for above-average profitability?

The rubrics for critical thinking are the basis for this assignment's grading criteria.
