The British colony of New Zealand (NZ) became an independent dominion in 1907. It supported the UK militarily in both World Wars and became fully independent in 1947. The country is located 1200 miles southeast of Australia. It is made up of two major islands and one small island: the North Island, the South Island, and Stewart Island, respectively. The two major islands are approximate 10 miles apart. It is a country of rare beauty, ranging from endless beaches, lush forests and glacial mountains and lakes.
The seasons are reversed and the overall temperature is mostly mild year-round. The North Island is known for its beaches and has more of a subtropical climate. The South Island is known for the mountains with more of a temperate climate.
