     Karl Quist

Karl Quist is a current undergraduate student at DePaul University. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology and plans to graduate by June 2012. In his spare time, Karl enjoys reading blogs focused on technology, staying active by exercising (particularly running), and watching movies from all different types of genres. The tour to Brazil was Karl’s first time in South America and he was awe-struck by the landscaping and lively culture and lifestyle.

Personal reflection:

Going into Brazil in the beginning of December, I did not know what to
expect. As soon as we got to Rio, the weather struck me; it was very humid.
This was such a drastic change from what I was used to in the States. I knew
from the moment we checked into Ipanema Plaza, I would have a great
time in this new country. The company visits were very informative
and I gained a true understanding of how IT companies operate there.
It was interesting to see how much of a role government plays into the
development of some of these companies, given that some of their funding
comes from the government. Overall, if money and time permits, I would not
mind traveling to South America in the future; I would make sure to brush
up on my Portuguese before leaving Chicago.
