COURSE
This course focuses on the interrelationships and methods used by information systems groups to meet the information needs of enterprises. The course starts with an examination of the basics of enterprises information needs: the role of the value chain, the profit paradigm, and information infrastructure flows are explored. Then attention turns role of software methods, programming and security as supporting technologies. Topics include enterprise systems, commerce systems, project management, sourcing decisions, IT risk management, services and operations performed. PREREQUISITE(S): IT 215 or SE 325.
A combination of teaching methods will be used in this course, including lecture, class exercises, group presentation, and debate.
By the end of the course the student will be able to:
* Analyze the major business forces that influence IT usage in organizations,
* Analyze the major business processes and information flows in organizations,
* Evaluate the current IT conflicts and use critical thinking skills to argue positions,
* Analyze characteristics of the major IS professional competencies
REQUIREMENTS
* 40% 3 Quizzes & 1 Homework
* 30% Individual Paper -- due week 5
* 20% Team Debate -- due weeks 10/11
* 10% Participation -- discussion forum (COL)
* Compliance to University Policy on Plagiarism. Cite sources of origin in full citation. Violation will result in 0 point for the assignment or more severe penalty.
