Website Design Guidelines
Reference: Eccher, Clint,
Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates, Third Edition,
Charles River Media, 2008.
- Follow principles of good design:
- Use strong alignment (no centering of entire paragraphs).
- Choose a consistant font and color scheme for the entire website.
- Use strong contrast (if you use different fonts on the same page,
make them obviously different).
- Don't use overly large fonts (unless you are designing for accessability
or for children).
- There is almost always an exception.
- Just because you can does not mean that you should.
- It is impossible to please everyone.
- When designing a website, keep in mind
aesthetics, usability and functionality.
- Stay on top of Web standards.
- Designers should seek crossover experience.
- Be aware of the total weight (kilobytes) of each page in your site.
- Users are the ultimate judge.
