proc report

Introduction

• SAS proc report combines features of the other procs: print, means, summary, tabulate.
   
• Here is the basic form of proc report that we will use:
  

  proc report nowindows headline;
     column variable-list;
  

• See the NationalParks Example.
   
• If at least one character variable is listed as a column variable, the data will be listed in detail, one row per observation.
   
• If no character variables are listed, only numeric ones, then only the sums of each column are shown.
   
• Use define statements to change the column headers:
  

  define age / order 'Age at/Admission';
  

• Use the order keyword to display the rows in sorted order.
   
• Use the analysis keyword to request statistics:
  

  define camping / analysis;
  

  The default statistic is sum.
   
• Here are some options for proc report:
   
  

  Option	Description
  across	Create a column for each unique value of variable
  analysis	Calculate statistics for each variable; default usage for numeric variables; default statistic is sum
  computed	Create new variable that is computed in a compute block
  display	Create one row for each observation; default usage for character variables
  group	create one row for each unique value of variable
  order	create one row for each observation with rows arranged according to the values of order variable
