Title: The Impact of Internet Delay and Document Content on User Perceptions
Authors: Andrew Sears, Julie Jacko
Abstract: Many corporate WWW sites incorporate numerous graphics, animations, and various other media in an attempt to establish a more professional impression for the visitors of the site. These additional features result in increased development times for the corporation and increased delays for the users. This study explores whether such features provide benefits in the form of improved ratings by users of the site. Our results indicate that simple animations, graphical buttons, and graphics added for aesthetic reasons alone do not result in more positive evaluations by visitors of WWW sites. This suggests that removing such features, optimizing graphics, and reducing the size of larger graphics can save development time for the corporation and download time for users without sacrificing perceived quality.
