News and Announcements

Congratulations to Ambrose Donnelly, Troop 894's newest Eagle Scout!  Ambrose's Eagle Board of Review took place on January 17th.

The Klondike Derby is coming up on Saturday, February 4th.

The Pancake Breakfast took place Sunday, November 13th and was, by all reports, a resounding success.  Thanks to all who worked hard to make this happen.

Please see the calendar page for the dates of weekend and summer activities for the entire year.

This past summer twelve Scouts spent a week in beautiful site 14 at Camp Wolverine.  Thanks to Tom McCarthy, Andres Sanchez, Brian Palm, and Alex Diaz for serving as leaders on site.  It was fun having three former Scoutmasters, Rich Gudmundson, David McCarthy, and Jim Garner, stop by for the Friday night campfire.  It may seem far in the future but keep next year's dates in mind: period 3 will be July 8th to the 14th, period 4 from July 15th to the 21st.  Zaxie!

The five Scouts who backpacked the Ice Age Trail in July completed a challenging but enjoyable trek.  The next step: Philmont next summer.  Thanks to Fred Butzen, Tom Donnelly, Jake Peters, and Drake Winters for working hard to make this trek happen.

PHILMONT 2012!  Now's the time to start planning.  A Scout is eligible if, by the date of the trek, he will be 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and passed 8th grade.  But age eligibility is just the first requirement.  An 11 day  backpacking trip requires a lot of preparation.  We will be teaching backpacking skills and taking practice hikes this fall.  So any Scout interested in Philmont should contact John Rogers at 773-478-8836 or by email to john.rogers@gmail.com.  Take a great trip, earn the Philmont Arrowhead patch, and join the other 10 Scouts from 894 who have been there.

Who we are

We are a Boy Scout troop sponsored by the parish of the Queen of Angels Church, located on the northwest side of Chicago. We are in the Fort Dearborn District of the Chicago Area Council.  We are closely associated with the Cub Scouts in Pack 3894.  Please go to www.ChicagoCubScouts.com for information on the pack, its dens, and its programs.

Our troop has an active outdoor program that includes week-end camping during the school year and week-long summer camping at Owasippe, one of the best Scout camps in the country. We also have a thriving high-adventure program. In 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011 a total of twenty-one of our Scouts and eight of our adults have gone on five-day backpacking treks as part of the Manistee Quest program at Owasippe or our own trek on the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin.  Two Scouts have gone twice!  We'll hit that trail again in 2013.  In 2007, 2008, and 2010, a total of eight Scouts and four adults have participated in Philmont treks of 12 days and more than 80 miles.  We'll head to Philmont again in 2012.
