o        Engineered turnaround of a failing IT department within 10 months and moved the department from a $1M loss to a profit center within 18 months.   Have maintained IS as a profit center for each subsequent year, with improved customer service ratings.

o        Re-organized and re-focused SBA’s internal Web development, which provides e-business and e-commerce strategy, design, development and hosting to 70 associations. Moved it from a loss to a profit center in 9 months.

o        Created and executed a strategic technology plan, which resulted in 99.97% network uptime, 2-year lease cycle for PC and meeting standard service levels on all Help Desk calls.  Currently working with CxO’s and client Boards of Directors to develop strategic plans that will improve the business value with more effective use of technology.

o        Successfully implemented an ERP association management system for all 70 of our association clients.  The system provides web access to member information, event registration and dues payment. Back office functions include billing, inventory control, customer management, A/R, order entry, events, credit card authorization and accounting interface.

1990 – 1996: CNA Insurance Companies: http://www.cna.com

Director and Assistant Vice President, Technical Services Division

Worked with senior management and business unit leaders to develop technical architecture plans for several key projects including distributed claim information, workmen’s compensation claim forms processing, commercial association dividends and a uniform corporate PC desktop. These architectures enabled the business units to improve or create their systems in relatively short time frames using standard hardware and software.

Managed staff of 75 and put in place the management processes that allowed CNA to take over support for an Artificial Intelligence based group health claim processing system from the vendor in less than a year.   This resulted in decreased support costs and improved ability to modify the system to meet changing customer needs.

Created a technical research group to gain experience with new technology and apply it to current business problems.  Projects included corporate intranet, implementation of Windows95 and NT Workstation to replace Windows 3.1 on the corporate desktops and remote access capability.  These projects allowed CNA to create business solutions using new technology projects while still supporting existing applications.

Instituted standard process for evaluating, installing and maintaining technical tools and components.   Managed the effort to create a component library and on-line product catalog to provide consistent information on software and hardware throughout the organization.

1979 – 1990:  Continental Illinois National Bank (Now Bank of America)

Division Manager, Project Manager, Senior Analyst, Programmer/Analyst

Focus on International Banking Systems and Trading Floor support.  Established and remotely managed IT departments in Europe, South America and Tokyo.  Relocated to England for two years to manage critical International Banking implementation project.  Re-aligned IS support with the business for all Latin American branches, which improved service and reduced operational expenses by 20%.  Designed and installed new Trading Floors in Chicago and Tokyo, which provided improved access to online information sources and real-time market information.  Designed an online (IMS DB/DC) international funds transfer system that improved delivery of information from several days to minutes.
