Using SAS

SAS provides a scripting language for preparing and analyzing data. In its simplest form, it has statements for reading and preparing a data set and procs (statistical procedures) for analyzing the data.

SAS statements are written as a text file. You can use your own text editor (e.g. Notepad, Textpad, emacs) or use the text editor available in SAS.

Once the statements are written in SAS, you run the SAS program by clicking on the button with the "running figure" icon.

Note: to run sas on unix, use the sas command followed by the name of the SAS program (e.g. sas simple.sas). Character-based files appear in the directory (e.g. simple.log and simple.lst).
