Spring 2011
Independent Project
Due Friday June 3
Overview
For this project, you will choose a topic of your choice, which may
involve an extension from one of the small projects or an idea from
the papers. In any case, it should compare some aspect of human behavior
to that of a mechanistic model and then draw conclusions of how well the model
accounts for human behavior.
Requirements
The details of your project and report will vary depending on your project. However, all reports should fully address the following:
- An introduction that includes the motivation and goals for your
project. It should define the scope of human behavior you are
studying, typically specified as a task (e.g. categorize items,
inflect verbs). (6 points)
- A detailed description of the human behavior. If collecting
data from human participants, the process of informed consent should
be presented. (6 points)
- A detailed description explaining the mechanistic model and its
behavior or predictions. (6 points)
- A comparison of human behavior to the model's behavior or
predictions. As appropriate, provide similarities and differences.
Identify aspects of the model that might be useful for explaining
human behavior. (6 points)
As before, the report should be well organized, written and
formatted. (6 points)
Report
Using a single-spaced format, the main body of your report may be
as small as three pages. Include appendices as appropriate.
Submit your report to the corresponding dropbox on D2L.
