Spring 2011
Final Reflective Report
Due Friday June 10
Goal
The goal for this report is to review course course activites and
relate them to the targeted outcomes for the course.
Requirements
Below are the learning outcomes as listed on the course web
page:
- Work with formal representations that describe perception,
reasoning or language.
- Generate predictions from mechanistic models and compare them to
human behavior.
- Describe models based on contrasting theories.
- Write articles that describe an empirical study, its results and
what can be concluded from the study.
- Present theories and models and explain how well they account
for human behavior.
- Explain how cognitive functions may be realized in terms of the
brain's organization or physical mechanisms.
- Reflect on their own thinking and articulate effective
strategies.
For each outcome, present one example that
summarizes what you did or studied in the class that addresses the
outcome. You may draw upon the readings, projects, disucssions or
exercises when presenting the example.
Each response can be successfully addressed with one paragraph, but
you may write more if you think it is needed.
Grading
The report will be graded with the following criteria:
- Specificity. Responses clearly identify the
example and how it addresses the learning outcome. Clear
language distinguishes the example from other readings, exercises or
examples. Core cognitive principles or mechanisms are
explained with supporting detail. (8 points)
- Accuracy. Responses accurately explain relevant
concepts, theories or results. (8 points)
- Presentation. Responses are well structured and
easy to understand. They are virtually free of any grammar errors,
mispellings or other typing errors. (4 points)
To clearly identify a reading, you may choose to use any common
citation method (e.g. APA). A list of references is not needed (I
know what they are).
Before the report is due, you may choose any one outcome and email
me your response for it. I will provide feedback and indicate what
still needs to be addressed for full credit (if anything). Please
allow 24 hours for feedback.
Submission
Submit your responses to the corresponding dropbox on D2L.
