Overview

For this last project, you will plan and conduct an additional user research method that complements or validates findings from previous projects. The choice of method is up to you, but you should practice either a new method or a substantial variant to one of the methods you have already practiced.

Choosing a method

Here are some possible methods you might consider:

• Surveys
• Focus groups
• Diaries
• User shadowing

You may also consider variants of interviews for this project provided that your procedure incorporates strategies that you did not previously use.

Report Contents

Just as the last project, the report should have the following goals:

1. Present findings useful for designing an interactive system
2. Support the findings by presenting the results and explaining the procedure
3. Demonstrate that the study was conducted ethically and professionally

The contents of your report should effectively address these goals.

Report Format

There is no specific report format, but it should follow the principles discussed in class and presented in Kuniavsky.

Submission

Please place all contents in one document using a common format (e.g. Word, PDF, RTF, HTML). Submit this document through the COL Web submission site under the name of one team member.

Grading

In addition to completeness, I will consider the following issues when grading the reports:

• Report usability and readability (good formatting and writing are essential!)
• Use of new method or variant
• Clear description of method used
• Inclusion of attributes useful for design
• Method and results support findings
• Informed consent is appropriately addressed
