HCI 432: User-Centered Interactive Web Development
Winter 2001
Group Project: Conceptual Design
Due Tuesday February 27
Overview
For the conceptual design phase of your project, you will focus on
your site's logical content and its organization.
Assignment goals
- Describing a site and its organization at an abstract level.
- Developing a site's information architecture.
Organizing your Web site
By now you should have determined what your site should offer in terms
of information and services. For this assignment, you will determine
an organization for your site so that users can quickly find what they
are looking for (or find something useful if they were not looking for
anything in particular). We will discuss several techniques in class
for determining a useful site organization. You should use these
techniques, or modifications of them, to maximize the accessibility of
your site's content and services to its users.
Methodology
You will use the techniques discussed in class to best suit your
project's needs. In a couple of paragraphs, describe your group's
methods for determining your conceptual design.
Description of Conceptual Design
Using diagrams and text, describe the conceptual organization of
your Web site. It should describe the contents of each page and
indicate how each page is linked. The pages should be connected with
user-centric terms. However, the descriptions should be abstract
enough so as not to specify the style, formatting and layout of each
page.
Submission
Submit a document with the following:
- Brief description of your site (approximately 2 sentences).
- Methodology for determining your site's conceptual design.
- Description of your site's conceptual design.
Grading
Full credit will be awarded to well-edited reports that document your
methology and describe the site's design.
