Usability testing goals

The principal goal of a usability test is to identify usability problems. Other goals include:

  1. To gain information about the product
  2. To make recommendations for modifying or adopting the product
  3. To find out how satisfying the product is to users
  4. Establish benchmarks for future comparisons

In any case, the results of a usability test are not meant to be generalized beyond the product. In other words, usability tests are not controlled experiments.
