Capstone Project Ideas
- Web site development or overhaul. Identify a client who needs
work done on a Web site. Apply a variety of methods (e.g. contextual inquiry,
card sorts, usability tests, server log analysis).
- Comparison of evaluation methods. Using an existing site or
application, conduct an assortment of evaluation methods and compare the results.
Example comparisons include analytic methods (e.g. GOMS KLM, NGOMSL, CPM), usability
testing, user satisfaction surveys, automated methods, and expert ratings.
- Case study. Identify an actual completed project and learn how
it was conducted through interviews and questionnaires. Perform an independent
assessment of the final product. Report what went well and what didn't.
- E-commerce usage patterns.Systematically post multiple items for
sale and link them to a Web server to which you can obtain access logs. Develop
hypotheses on how people will interact with your postings. Analyze
the access logs to see if usage is consistent with your hypotheses.
- Information architecture. Develop alternate organizations for
a Web site using a domain of your choosing. Evaluate the effectiveness of the
different organizations.
