  • Writing in the Disciplines Grant

$1,000 internal award to support a survey of CTI writing coursework, development of a best-practices document for assigning writing assignments in IT courses and recommended revisions to ENG 204 for CTI students, June, 2006.

  • High Performance Networks Connections (HPNC)

$150,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) over 2 years to support the connection of DePaul University to high-speed Abilene network backbone and participation in Internet2 project.  Sole P.I.   Awarded September 2001.

  • Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN)

$491,400 award from the U.S. Department of Education over 3 years to provide support for 6 Ph.D. students.  Joint grant with Steven Lytinen, Alan Jeffrey, Noriko Tomuro, and Eric Schwabe.  Awarded April 2001.

  • Supporting Pedagogical Shifts with Technology

$12,000 QIC Competitive Grant awarded in February 1997.  Joint grant with Lorilee Sadler.

  • Delay Characteristics of Voice and Video Traffic on the Internet

$15,000 industry grant from U.S. Robotics Corporation awarded in May 1996.  Renewed for an additional $15,000 in January 1997.  Joint grant with Michael Borella.

 

 

Professional Activities

·        Sept, 2006 – March, 2007: Reviewed around 300 telecommunications patents and provided expert testimony on patent potential of Internet telephony services for Foley and Lardner, Chicago.

·        Various dates, 2003: Provided expert testimony in several immigration cases for Sidley Austin Brown and Wood that required opinions on how well applicants had met legal standards of specialized knowledge in telecommunications and other IT skill sets.

·        March, 1999: Retained as expert witness by law firm of Hale, Lane, Peek, Dennison, Howard and Anderson to submit report and testify in case of Las Vegas Digital Communications, Inc. v. 3Com Corporation. 

·        June, 1997: Hired by Communications Technology Group, Inc. to consult on proposed high-bandwidth ATM communications network design to be presented to the City of Chicago.

  • March, 1997: Hired by Ameritech Corporation to design and present one-day seminar titled "Basic Telecommunications" to new executives.  Presentation was repeated in July, 1997.
